Dell EMC Drives Big Data Solutions at TACC

Hear how the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), a center that provides cyber infrastructure for open research in the state of Texas and for the nation, has built systems and solutions for computational tasks using cloud, high performance and data intensive computing.
By implementing a big data solution called Wrangler, TACC designed a system to deliver a Hadoop-based data intensive environment. Cloudera, one of the leaders in deploying Hadoop at scale, together with the Dell EMC DSSD team delivers Dell EMC D5 technology, on PowerEdge R730xd servers with Intel Xeon processors, in a Hadoop environment. The DSSD D5 plug-in for Hadoop couples with the Cloudera environment to allow Hadoop users the full benefit of the throughput and IOPS possible with flash storage. The team at TACC goes on to explain that the implementation of Hadoop has allowed teams to capture the ever growing amounts of data, put a structure over the top of the data through the Hadoop environment that then allows them to query data in ways that bring structure to the data after it has been catalogued. The results of the solution have delivered up to 50 times performance improvement and jobs that used to take weeks and months are now completed in hours.
